As President and Secretary General of DePaul University Model United Nations, Atiya founded DeMUN — DePaul’s first high school Model UN conference. On April 18th, he successfully organized the second annual DeMUN conference, bringing more than 500 high school students from across Chicagoland to DePaul’s campus for a full day of diplomacy, debate, and crisis simulations.

One student moderator, Riya Chaudhari, praised Atiya’s leadership: “Huge shoutout to Mohammad Atiya, our Secretary General and founder of DePaul MUN, for creating such a welcoming environment for everyone involved in the organization.”

In addition to his work with Model UN, Atiya serves as Lead of the Muslim Civic Coalition’s 2026 Young Adults Civic Impact Fellowship, where he mentors and mobilizes a new generation of young Muslim leaders across the United States. He is also President of the DePaul Pre-Law Club, co-founder of the DePaul Undergraduate Law Review, and a Chicago Quarter Mentor.

“We at the Muslim Civic Coalition are incredibly proud to have Mohammad on our team. He consistently shows up to do one-on-one organizing with local communities around issues that matter most,” said Rija Arshad, Organizing Lead at the Muslim Civic Coalition. “We look forward to his continued leadership and future successes.”

Fellowship applications are now open with the deadline approaching quickly.
