The Muslim Civic Coalition offers a robust internship experience for young adults interested in civic engagement, advocacy and policy, research, and community leadership! Interns will gain hands-on experience in community organizing, legislative advocacy, strategic communication, coalition building, and so much more. We invite you to be a part of our team as we continue to build civic power and justice across the state of Illinois.

Internship Requirements
Current college student, recent graduate, or young adult (18–30 preferred) passionate about civic engagement, advocacy, policy, or community organizing.
Strong interest in social justice and empowering Muslim and allied communities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Reliable, organized, and able to work independently and in a team.
Commitment to the mission and values of the Muslim Civic Coalition.
Ability to attend some in-person events in the Chicago area.
Our Internship Programs:

The Administrative Intern will provide essential operational and administrative support to ensure the smooth day-to-day functioning of the organization. This role is ideal for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit operations, coordination, and organizational systems.
Responsibilities:Schedule meetings, manage calendars, and take detailed meeting notes/minutes
Assist with office operations, including supply inventory, ordering, and general organization
Support HR-related tasks such as onboarding new employees, preparing materials, and maintaining personnel records
Coordinate logistics for events, workshops, and internal meetings, including communications and follow-ups
Maintain and organize digital files, documents, and shared drives
Support internal communications, including drafting emails and coordinating team updates
Assist with data entry and tracking across organizational systems (e.g., contacts, attendance, internal trackers)
Help manage incoming inquiries and provide general administrative support as needed
Support process improvement efforts by helping document workflows and systems
This role offers valuable exposure to nonprofit administration, internal operations, and cross-functional team support while contributing to the organization’s overall efficiency and impact.

The Civic Justice Organizer Intern will gain hands-on experience building organizing, communication, and leadership skills in a dynamic, mission-driven environment. You will play a direct role in mobilizing the Muslim community for civic engagement — including voter registration, Get Out The Vote (GOTV) efforts for the November 2026 General Election, meeting with elected officials, direct action, and staying informed on key issues and upcoming elections.
Responsibilities:
Assist in community outreach by communicating with partners, attending meetings and events with community leaders and allies, networking.
Assist in civic engagement by tabling at events and jummah, phone banking, canvassing, voter registration and providing critical voter resources.
Assist in civic education by planning and facilitating educational workshops and presentations, disseminating educational materials, and engaging in one on one conversations with community members.
Support team in other civic justice organizing projects as they arise (research, event planning, etc.)

The Development Intern will support the organization’s fundraising and development efforts by assisting with research, administrative tasks, and donor engagement activities. This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in nonprofit development, philanthropy, and mission-driven work.
Responsibilities:
Assist with research and administrative projects that support fundraising initiatives and the organization’s annual fundraising goals
Conduct research on prospective donors, foundations, and philanthropic trends to inform development strategy
Support the planning and execution of fundraising events, including logistics, coordination, and outreach
Assist with gift processing, donor data entry, and maintaining accurate records in development systems
Draft and send donor acknowledgments and thank-you letters in a timely and professional manner

The Advocacy and Policy Intern will support the Muslim Civic Coalition’s core work advancing civic justice through legislative advocacy, policy development, and strategic communications. This hands-on role offers direct exposure to state-level policymaking, coalition building, and impactful advocacy on behalf of Illinois Muslim communities and allied partners.
Responsibilities:
Attend meetings with policymakers, allies, partners, and other stakeholders related to current bills and legislative priorities.
Track legislative developments, summarize bills and amendments, and prepare briefings for the team.
Assist with drafting press releases, testimonies, alerts, and other policy-related communications.
Conduct research and support policy development on priority issues
Help organize community listening sessions, coalition convenings, and advocacy events.
Provide general administrative support to the Advocacy & Policy Lead and team.
Contribute to voter outreach and civic engagement initiatives as needed

The Communications Intern will play a key role in amplifying the Muslim Civic Coalition’s mission through strategic messaging, content creation, and public storytelling. This hands-on position offers the opportunity to develop professional communications skills while helping shape narratives that advance civic justice, community power, and policy change across Illinois.
Prepare press releases, media advisory, as needed
Compile and upkeep media list(s)
Support the development and execution of social media strategies
Create engaging content for social media platforms and promotional flyers
Assisting in gathering raw video for internal and external content
Capture and document Coalition events through photos and videos
Draft blog posts to share on our website and social media channels
