Muslim Civic Coalition Hosts Post-Election Data Debrief in Illinois’ 8th Congressional District
Chicago, IL – On Wednesday, April 29, 2026 – the Muslim Civic Coalition, in partnership with local leaders, community organizers, and allied organizations, hosted a nonpartisan Post-Election Debrief focused on Illinois’ 8th Congressional District (IL-8).
The event created a collaborative space for participants to examine data from the 2026 primary elections, review outcomes, and discuss strategies for strengthening civic engagement and organizing efforts in future election cycles. The debrief emphasized open dialogue, data analysis, critical reflection, and nonpartisan approaches to community leadership.
Participating organizations included West Suburban IL Democratic Socialists of America, IL Progressives, Chicago Area Progressives, The People’s Lobby, Sunrise Movement, IfNotNow, ILMAN, and others. The Coalition thanks all who contributed their time and insights.
Attendees reviewed election data across several key races, including the U.S. Senate, Illinois Comptroller, IL-8, and DuPage County Board District 4, with particular attention to voter turnout trends and participation in Muslim communities.
Presenters shared data, analysis, and observations, including:
Junaid Ahmed and Amir Haq, who discussed organizing strategies, voter outreach efforts, and campaign lessons learned.
Sheila Rawat of Chicago Area Progressives (Schaumburg)
Maggie Wunderly of IL Progressives, who presented voter turnout data and comparisons between election cycles
Syed Hussain, who shared reflections from his candidacy for DuPage County Board District 4, highlighting turnout in certain communities and the role of masjids in civic engagement
Raven Seidner of IfNotNow, who discussed organizing within Jewish communities
The event included structured “Voter Perspective” sessions that allowed attendees to share candid feedback. Discussions underscored the importance of stronger coordination across communities, targeted district-level strategies, unified messaging, sustained collaboration, and expanded civic education within the Muslim community to support greater long-term civic participation.
