Muslim Civic Coalition Mobilizes Illinois Muslim Voters Ahead of Election Day

Illinois, October 27, 2026– With Election Day one week away, the Muslim Civic Coalition has spent recent weeks connecting with Muslim voters across Illinois through voter registration drives, resource tables, and voter education workshops.

Voter Registration Drive at Nabala Cafe

Roughly two weeks ago, the Coalition partnered with Nabala Cafe to host a voter registration drive for coffee-shop goers. Beyond serving as a Palestinian cafe, Nabala is a gathering place for Palestinian and marginalized communities, hosting weekly events on organizing, Palestinian culture, music, and education. Coalition organizers registered new voters, verified existing registrations, shared election information and resources, and spoke with community members about what is at stake this November.

Jummah Tabling

Every Friday, Coalition organizers table at a different masjid during Jummah prayers to provide civic education. These recurrent visits reinforce the importance of civic engagement as a year-round participation, not just during election season. In recent weeks, the team has tabled at Masjid Al Huda in Schaumburg, Islamic Society of Northwest Suburbs (ISNS) in Rolling Meadows, and Islamic Center of Wheaton (ICW) in Wheaton. Coalition organizers registered first-time voters, verified voter registration and emphasized early voting and mail-in ballot options. The Coalition also works with each masjid to ensure the message to vote is carried from the mimbar, which consistently produces strong community engagement.

No Kings Rally in Springfield

The Coalition also staffed an informational table at the No Kings Rally in Springfield, where hundreds gathered at the State Capitol to protest the Trump administration. The rally's central message was that turning out to vote is a direct form of action, especially given the administration’s direct attacks on immigrant neighbors and important government programs,  and that attendees should encourage their neighbors to do the same. Community organizer, Amina Rahman, represented the Coalition, introducing the American Muslim Story and the IL Muslims Report to attendees from a range of various backgrounds, many of whom were encountering these resources for the first time.

Voter Education Workshops

This past weekend, the Coalition led workshops at two different masajid, ISNS and ICW. Organizers presented data relevant to Illinois Muslims, outlined recently passed laws like the Faith By Plate Act, and walked attendees through key voting and election resources. The sessions also sparked meaningful conversations about the power of the Muslim vote and the importance of supporting candidates who reflect the community’s values. Participants left committed to serving as ambassadors, encouraging their own family and friends to vote.

The 2026 midterm election is just one week away, and early voting is happening right now. Make a plan to vote early or on Tuesday, November 3. Check your polling place, early voting locations, registration status, and more at our Voter Hub.
