Hate Crimes Congressional Hearing Messaging
Intention and Preparation
After 10 months of preparation, the historic Hate Crimes Congressional Hearing took place on Sept 17, 2024.
The hearing addressed dehumanization broadly, with a focus on anti-Palestinian and anti-Muslim hate.
Wadee AlFayoumi’s name echoed in the halls of Congress as a central point of focus. We centered his story and stood by his mother Hanan at the hearing.
Partnerships and Advocacy
The Muslim Civic Coalition partnered with:
Senator Dick Durbin
Congresswomen Delia Ramirez
Key Muslim-led, Arab-led organizations.
Dozens of partner and ally groups.
Political Landscape on Hearing Day
Political hate rhetoric was present, particularly from Republicans, fueling division.
Appreciation for Democrats who stood in solidarity, though some were absent from the room.
Resilience and Lessons from Allies
We are resilient and draw strength from allies who have faced and overcome dehumanization.
Together, we continue to fight for justice and against hate.
