Muslim Civic Coalition Welcomes Release of Palestinian Leader Salah Sarsour from ICE Detention

Chicago, IL — June 18, 2026 — The Muslim Civic Coalition celebrates the court-ordered release of longtime community leader Salah Sarsour from ICE custody.

Sarsour, President of the Islamic Society of Milwaukee and a respected father, grandfather, and advocate, was detained by ICE on March 30, 2026. His release today marks a significant victory for due process, civil liberties, and the right to free speech.

While we celebrate this win, our fight for those illegally detained by ICE continues. Many individuals remain in ICE custody without due process.

We join our partners across the community in welcoming Brother Salah home to his family and congregation. His case highlighted the dangerous weaponization of immigration enforcement against those who speak out for Palestinian rights.

The Muslim Civic Coalition remains committed to defending immigrant rights, due process, and constitutional protections for all communities.

We thank the attorneys, advocates, faith leaders, elected officials, and coalition partners who stood firmly for justice.
