Muslim Civic Coalition Joins CBCAC’s “Our Sanctuary” 5th Annual Gala

The Muslim Civic Coalition was honored to attend the Coalition for a Better Chinese American Community (CBCAC)’s 5th Annual Gala on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at the New Furama Restaurant in Chicago.

This year’s theme, “Our Sanctuary” (家園), beautifully captured the shared commitment to building safe, thriving, and inclusive communities. It was a powerful evening of celebration, connection, and solidarity.

State Representative Theresa Mah, recipient of the inaugural Trailblazer Award, delivered inspiring remarks on the importance of building, being, and power-building in coalitions — especially at a time when all of our communities are being targeted. Her words underscored the urgency and necessity of working together to advance justice and equity.

CBCAC has long been a valued partner to the Muslim Civic Coalition. Together, we sit on the PAVE Coalition, working collaboratively to advance justice, equity, and belonging for all. As we continue to build power across communities, this event reminded us that real movement building happens through strong coalitions and meaningful relationships.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to CBCAC on their many impressive accomplishments, including:

  • Providing rapid assistance to families impacted by family separation

  • Hosting the First Asian American Youth & Caregiver Mental Health Summit

  • Securing $2.3 million for the Bridgeport Business Community

  • Advocating for equitable development in the 78 project

  • Amplifying Chicago’s Chinese community through impactful media coverage

We also proudly celebrated the awardees: State Representative Theresa Mah (Trailblazer Award), Organized Communities Against Deportation (Esther Wong Impact Award), Lakeside Bank (Chinatown Partner Award), and Alan Luu (Youth Excellence Award).

It was wonderful to see so many friends and allies in one room, strengthening the bonds that make our collective work possible.

We remain deeply committed to standing together with CBCAC and all our coalition partners to build a more just and compassionate future for all our communities.
