Confronting Hate:

The Congressional Hearing, Centering Wadee AlFayoumi, and the Path Forward

Achieving this moment is the result of years of strong relationships with legislators, partners, and allies, whose support made this work possible. This page was created to ensure transparency and provide essential context for understanding this pivotal moment.

Guided by our shared value of justice and our commitment to Hanan Shaheen, her son Wadee AlFayoumi, and all those impacted by dehumanization, we aim to move forward together in shaping policies that foster inclusivity. While much attention has been drawn to the hate-filled rhetoric from some elected officials that underscored the importance of the hearing in the first place, we also believe it’s crucial to focus on the deeper purpose of the hearing, the wins and challenges, and our collective path forward.

At the Muslim Civic Coalition we shape policies that uplift America's diverse stories and drive actions toward equity and justice. This means that laws are made for us, and with us.

On this page, we provide a full account and detailed overview of the work, involving various stakeholders, that has brought us to this pivotal moment over the past eleven months.
