Black Tie Charity Gala - MLFA

  • 401 Half Day Road Buffalo Grove, IL, 60089 United States (map)

Muslim Legal Fund of America is proud to present you with:

The Black Tie Charity Gala

Join us on February 29th, 2020 and become immersed as we guide you through the single most important cause of our lifetimes, our Freedom.

Our pinnacle focus is a singular cause, to advance equality and justice in the name of freedom for Muslim’s in America. The Black Tie Charity Gala will be an elegant night were you truly feel the heartbeat of the Muslim community, through the eyes of film, the experiences and insight of thought leaders, and the essence of change expressed though film and choreographed artistic dance.

The exclusivity of this event is purposeful, it is the first of only 4 throughout the United States.

If we have not yet compelled you to give you reason enough to attend our event, you must know that In 2019 alone, MLFA's boutique law firm, the Constitutional Law Center for Muslims in America, opened 377 pro bono cases:

  • 43% Immigration

  • 26% Civil

  • 25% Criminal

  • 6% Non-Profit

Our success has come as a result of your support over our 19 year history. The work MLFA has done to advance and protect the causes of American Muslim organizations and individuals by combating the injustices done in the name of national security is indispensable. We do this by providing legal representation in targeted federal, civil, and criminal proceedings, individualized legal compliance advice for nonprofit organizations, and selected legal education in partnership with like-minded community organizations.

The Black Tie Charity Gala is curated to be an elegant, experiential, and educational event. The ideas and first-hand accounts told by our speakers will exemplify the importance of the night, and promote the invaluable support needed as we move forward with the Mission of MLFA. Film and dance and flow throughout the night create a unified experience.

Our mission and organization at this unforgettable event is best told by our keynote speaker, Trevor Aaronson. Aaronson is an author, journalist, director of the Florida Center for Investigative Reporting and author of The Terror Factory: Inside the FBI's Manufactured War on Terrorism.

Aaronson asks the question: Is the United States catching terrorists or creating them?

Our emcee Maaria Mozaffar, a civil rights attorney, mediator, and legislative consultant, knows firsthand the power of laws. Her mission is educate Muslim Americans how to take control of their lives through the legal and legislative process that our America is built upon.

Noor Salman, the widow of the Orlando nightclub shooter Omar Mateen. Salman, 31, faced two charges: aiding and abetting Mateen’s efforts to provide material support to ISIS, and obstruction of justice for allegedly misleading authorities in their investigation of the massacre. She could have been sentenced to life imprisonment if convicted on all counts - She was acquitted on all counts and will join us to share her emotional, first-hand experience.

Entertainment by Amira Sackett. Sackett, believes her art and identity as both Muslim and American, has the power to build bridges between communities fostering mutual understanding, increased knowledge, awareness, and unity. She uses her voice to fearlessly combat negative stereotypes about Muslim women, and educate communities with little or no contact with their fellow Muslim Americans. Founder of We're Muslim, Don't Panic.

With final remarks by Khalil Meek, co-founder and Executive Director of the Muslim Legal Fund of America.

We are extremely excited to host the MLFA Black Tie Charity Gala, and hope to garner your support to raise the necessary funds for charity and continue to fight against injustice. Doors open promptly at 6:00pm. Dinner service begins at 6:15pm.

With all this being said, we will leave you with this following statement from the Executive Director of the Muslim Legal Fund of America, Khalil Meek: For every Imam educated, hundreds of community members benefit. For every board member trained, investments in mosques & schools are protected. For every immigrant given a chance, thousands are given hope. For every no-fly name removed, good names are restored and families are reunited. For every victory in court, positive legal precedents are set for the future. For every guilt-by-association lawsuit won, justice is upheld.___________________________
